Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
